Living with MS since 2006

I’m Jennifer and I’m a teacher, which keeps me very busy! I was diagnosed with MS in 2006 after experiencing symptoms of numbness, dizziness and tingling since 2002. After all the waiting and uncertainty, I was relieved to finally receive a diagnosis.

I have two children, and I spend most of my spare time exercising, walking my dog, and hiking and biking with my kids. I no longer take my mobility for granted and live a very active and busy lifestyle. I try to live by the motto ‘I have MS but MS doesn’t have me’ – and you should too!

Listen to your body
Stay active
Get lots of rest
Stay cool
Technology can help!

1. Listen to your body
Know when to stop and try not to overdo it. It’s okay to say no!

2. Stay active
Exercise is proven to help improve overall health and help with many symptoms, but best of all, it can help you have a more positive outlook.

3. Get lots of rest
Take a nap, go to bed at a decent time, and take short breaks throughout the day. It’s okay to slow down!

4. Stay cool
Take a small fan with you on hot days to help cool you down and ensure your house and/or workplace has the necessary accommodations in place to keep your environment at a comfortable temperature.

5.Technology can help!
Between appointments and medications, it can be overwhelming to remember everything, especially if you have problems with your memory or issues concentrating. Use Apps or reminders on your phone to help keep you organized and on top of things.
